Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

What is RYLA?
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive training programme for young people aged 18-25. Talented young people attend a seminar, camp, or workshop, generally three to ten days in length, organized by Rotarians at the local club or district level. Participants’ expenses are often paid by sponsoring Rotary clubs.
The RYLA program enables young people to debate issues of professional responsibility and human relations, improve leadership and communication skills, learn about businesses and institutions, and meet Rotarians while having fun and making friends. For young adults, RYLA provides the opportunity to refine skills and explore pertinent topics with their peers and elders. For Rotarians, RYLA offers the chance to help develop leaders, share valuable expertise, and bridge the gap between generations.
What does RYLA offer?
Who participates in RYLA?
RYLA events are for young adults with proven leadership experience and potential leaders from diverse backgrounds. Whether you are a secondary school student, university student, or young professional, RYLA provides a unique opportunity to learn, grow, have fun, and make new friends. The RYLA experience prepares young people to be leaders in their community, profession, and other facets of everyday life.
So What Next?
If you are interested in participating in the RYLA scheme, or know someone who would be suitable, please contact our club Secretary so that your interest can be progressed and the selection process can be initiated.
During a RYLA program, you will:
• Gain exposure to issues and exchange ideas with talented people like         you.
•  Explore new career paths and find out more about your chosen field from successful professionals.
• Learn how to coordinate youth activities and community service       projects in your community.
• Discuss creative approaches for resolving family, social, and professional conflicts.
•  Meet Rotary decision-makers in your community and learn about other Rotary programs for young people.
Who is selected ?
The short answer is that there is no particular type of person.
Indeed the success of any course depends on there being
a good mix of both sexes of different ages (between
18 and 25), backgrounds and experience.
Please note that candidates must be 18 years old by the
first day of the course.
The commitment and determination by the participants to
succeed is most impressive.
The course is also designed to develop the latent talents of
anyone held back by lack of confidence.
Candidates must be prepared to contribute to as well as
benefit from the course and preference will be given to
those who would not otherwise get the opportunity to take
part in such an award scheme. It will be
an alcohol free
week.
Commitment.
The candidate who will gain most is the one who is
prepared to contribute most ! ! !
Candidates will be interviewed by the sponsoring club to
ensure that those selected are done so for their ability and
attitude to maximise their leadership potential.
